Psychosynthesis

I imagine that humans have been supporting and counselling each other since our earliest times.

Psychosynthesis is a holistic and transpersonal approach to counselling and psychotherapy, founded by the Italian psychiatrist Roberto Assagioli in the early twentieth century. Unlike approaches that focus solely on symptoms or behaviour, Psychosynthesis is interested in the whole person — not only in what causes us pain, but in who we are capable of becoming.

At its heart, Psychosynthesis holds that within each of us there is a drive towards growth, meaning and wholeness. It recognises that we are not one-dimensional beings — that we contain many different parts, feelings, and inner voices, sometimes in conflict with one another. The work of therapy is to bring greater awareness and harmony to these different aspects of ourselves, so that we can live with more clarity, purpose and self-compassion.

The word transpersonal points to something beyond the purely personal — to questions of meaning, values, creativity and spirituality. Psychosynthesis welcomes these dimensions of experience into the therapeutic space. You do not need to hold any particular spiritual belief to benefit from this approach — only a willingness to explore your inner life with openness and curiosity.

In practice, sessions are spacious and unhurried. I work relationally — meaning that the relationship between us is itself a central part of the healing process. I draw on a range of tools including dialogue, reflection, imagery and bodywork to support your particular journey.

My purpose as a counsellor is to offer my clients a place of refuge in a racing world. A place where they can take a moment to breathe and, in their own time, begin to explore whatever has brought them here. The therapeutic journey aims to help people feel better, function better, and realise their potential. My wish is to help my clients thrive, not just survive.
